How many times have you kicked yourself for
filling out a wrong entry on the entrance exam application form?
Probability is quite high considering the number of forms you have
to fill out for various exams and colleges. Filling up forms
correctly is very important for it to get
accepted. The first and foremost thing to do before starting to fill up the form is to read the brochure. It contains the explanation of each section of the form and what needs to be filled in. Also it is important to note whether you need to use pen or pencil to fill the form up. Even the color of the pen to be used is specified so don't skip the finer details.
After going through the brochure, read the instructions mentioned on the application form itself that are very important and can not be ignored at all. Some of the brochures come with a sample application form too that gives you an idea on what you should fill in a particular column. It acts as a guide and helps you out when you get stuck with a particular column. If not, just search the brochure for the section of the form you are stuck at and it will provide you with the explanation.
The strategy I used to follow to fill up forms was to get them photocopied and fill up the duplicate form first. This way if you by mistake enter something wrong, you have the option to correct it in the original form. Although time consuming, it is well worth the effort rather than freaking out after you have filled a wrong entry.
If you have filled in a wrong entry, then I would strongly advise against using white markers, blades etc. The only option I see is using an ink eraser but that too should be avoided. You should either get a new form if the mistake is big or if its trivial then let it be rather than mess up the form leading to it not getting accepted.
The last step to filling up a form is to go through it once more to check if you have left out any unfilled columns. This is one of the biggest mistakes made by most of us. Many of us forget to put thumb prints or sign at a particular place. Going through the form a couple of times carefully after filling it can save the troubles.
Lastly, if you have filled the form and happily submitted it too and you realize the big mistake you have made in one of the sections, do not panic. Some exams such as AIEEE have the option of correcting your mistake when your form details get published online. So be alert and follow the procedure to correct the mistake.
Of course, there are friends/teachers you can consult if the form seems all Greek and Latin to you!!
